At 1:33 p.m. Tuesday, Grande Oaks Liquor, 20301 Grand Oak Shoppes, Estero, reported a man went into the store and wanted to buy a Lotto ticket.
- A sting operation using an undercover detective and another person resulted in the arrests Wednesday of three members of a Bonita Springs family accused of making fake resident alien and Social Security cards.
- Two professors at Edison State College have been honored with national awards. Humanities Chairman Russell Swanson and English professor Marty Ambrose were both selected for a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development award.
- The city denied Bonita Springs Utilities request for a 3.5 percent rate increase last month and now it will consider whether the utility can increase its fees for services such as hook ups.

- David Brener, Hector Roman-Baez’s attorney, said his client’s operation wasn’t especially sophisticated. He said Baez was addicted to heroin and began dealing the drug. “What does it take?” Brener said. “For someone to go to Miami, buy the drugs, cut it up, come back and sell it? It’s not that sophisticated.”
“This is a pretty run-of-the-mill distribution ring,” he said.
